Cast On/Cast Off

Gramma has a caterpillar living on the plant on the porch.
Gramma and the boys enjoyed watching him and his friends.
The plant doesn't seem to like him though.

Seth likes to crawl into spaces that look interesting to him.
The smaller the better.

But they aren't always easy to get out of.

Nolan's rock climbing days are on hold.
So is swimming (Grampa bought pool passes for the summer for the two of them).
Oh, well.

Seth enjoys the variety of sounds the synthesizer provides.
He's actually standing on the wooden box of blocks Grampa built.

Nolan is looking for cobwebs.
He thinks the fireplace is sure to have a few.

Seth is eager to grab the fireplace tools to remove any cobwebs.

Seth could be a future cell phone engineer.
He carries multiple cell phones.

Sometimes his Daddy doesn't know which phone is ringing,
if he's carrying extra test phones.

Seth enjoys Grampa's chocolate chip cookies.
If he knew there was extra chocolate on his face,
he would not want it wiped.

Nolan convinced Gramma to buy him a grabber at the store,
because of his broken arm.
It comes in handy for chasing your brother, as well.

Seth checks Daddy's back pockets to see how many phones he has there.
Seth is still carrying his.

A swashbuckler salute,
from a one-armed pirate.

Daddy buys a new car for the family.
He was swayed by the seats that cool his rear in the summer.

There's ample room for the boys' seats.

The grabber goes home with the one-armed pirate.

Grampa is fixing the shades in the family room.
Actually, he's taking them down for Gramma to fix.
The problem with being married to someone retired is
they have a lot of time to find work for others.

Legos unlock an engineer's imagination.

VACATION!

Gramma comes up with all kinds of practice suggestions.
This was not one of them.  Hmmm?!

Andrew and friends.

Andrew and one of his dearest friends.

Don't step back, boys!

Give a boy a fish, he eats for a day.

Teach him to fish and ,,,

everyone eats tonight.

"You mean I have to put this worm on the hook?"

"All I have to do now is wait and pull the fish in."

"Are my hands going to smell fishy?"

"I'm so glad I don't have to row this boat."

Mommy has patients, but she also has patience.

"Where does the captain sit?"

All hands on deck!

Nathan makes fish faces.
The fish return their fish faces.

The fish are excited that Superman came to see them.

Beach boys.

Things are looking up.

Andrew considers public office.
Hopefully, somewhere other than California.
Of course, if anyone can help Callifornia,
it might be Andrew.

Sleepover with Friends/4th of July California Style

Nolan and Seth stayed overnight
at Gramma and Grampa's.
They wake up in the same condition
Grampa wakes up each morning.

Nila, Micaela and their parents also stayed with us.
They seem to be wide awake, and ready to solve the day's puzzles.

Gramma made Nolan a mango-coconut popsicle.
I think it was his first popsicle.
He learned the challenge is to eat faster than it melts.

Seth is worried the food supply may be lower with extra girls here.

Seth has his popsicle with a spoon.
It's much easier on Grampa.

The boys have started to play coffee shop.
They shop for their coffee in Gramma's pantry.
They have a little table for customers.
Gramma can be counted on as a regular.
They also serve bacon, eggs, and lots of cream in the coffee.

They love Gramma's bags of coffee.
Grampa is explaining he doesn't think it's a good thing to play with.

Seth is checking out what Gramma has to say about it.

He's going with Gramma's theory.
The coffee won't spill out of a closed bag.
He only has 6 teeth, but he's even shorter on hands.

Grampa makes an excellent loaf of artisan bread.

We went to the playground to play.
You have to be quick to get a picture of Seth still at the top of the slide.

And you have to be even faster with the camera
for Nolan, who loves to climb.
Gramma usually follows him as he climbs.
It's quicker than trying to run around the equipment,
as he moves from one side to another.

I didn't have a chance to take a selfie.
I had to keep up with Nolan.

Nolan teaches one of the girls to play pinball.

Hide and Seek Story

Nolan suggested to Grampa (on his Wednesday at the boys' house),
"Let's play hide and seek.  You go hide."
Grampa hesitated and then explained, "I can't really hide.  I have to keep an eye on Seth."

Grampa explained hide and seek works better at Gramma's house,
where she can keep an eye on Seth.
