Nolan has learned from Grampa that there is a place for everything
and everything should be put in its place.
This includes bananas and their peels.
We were teaching Aneisha to play cards,
but Seth is a Goedken, so he's paying close attention.
"I would raise your partner, if I were you."
"Piggy and Mousie need a ride in the wagon."
"They won't let me take you out in the street, yet."
"I think that present must be from me."
"These are the blocks my Daddy used to build with."
"Daddy, this is so big, I think you need my help to open it.
Now, what are we going to make together with this?
Good thing Grampa's been teaching me to work with power tools."
It was a perfect day to see the Chicago skyline via boat.
The Tribune building
One building acted as a mirror for the building in front of it.
The Merchandise Mart, where Matt works.
Matt is waving to us, on the boat, from the top of the Merchandise Mart.
We could really see him waving.
The skyline from Lake Michigan
Navy Pier Ferris Wheel
The Blue Angels were practicing for the Air Show.
They take off and fly with their jets 18 inches apart.
The mortality rate for a Blue Angel is 10%.
Out of 260 Blue Angels; 26 have died.
Any trip to Chicago is not complete without a trip to Portillo's.
Looks like the Blue Angels are headed for the top of the Chicago architecture.
It's fun to watch the people watching this fountain.
They don't know it's coming, until it does.
Their faces say it all.
Kevin and Aneisha were game for anything.
They kept up with the old folks pretty well.
The Blue Angels do not wear G-suits.
The suit inflating would make it difficult to feel the control stick between their legs.
Racing the tall ship.
The Chicago River was reversed in 1900. St. Louis was upset over it and sued the city.
In the end, they got even, when they bottled up the water and sent it back as Budweiser.
People were ducking their heads, as the jets went over.
Becky managed to film the Blue Angels with her phone.
I can never see what's on my phone,
including the # or name of the person calling me.
The Chicago Bean
with a Minnesota couple in it.
Statues in Chicago are well accessorized.
Which one is the statue?
Terry has a Zen moment.
Which way is the line going?
Look what muscles can do for you?
See the rainbow over the fountain?
Buckingham fountain is one of the largest in the world.
It shoots 150 feet into the air.
It was inspired by the fountain at the Palace of Versailles.
Becky and David managed to stay dry, during the taking of this picture.
So, am I milking a cow or a bull?
News from the California Gentlemen
Explorers of life.
Kindergarten is a new adventure for them.
I hope their teachers are ready.
Do you think he's eager for an education?
"So I wonder what we'll learn first."
From the shores to the mountaintops,
we do it together.
Mousie and the Beanstalk
by Gramma
a favorite story of Nolan's
Once upon a time, Mousie's mom told him to take the cow to market to sell. They did not have money to eat. So, Mousie put a rope on the cow and led him to market.
At the market, he met a man. The man asked, "Is your cow for sale?" Mousie told him, "Yes. What will you give me for him?" The man told him, "I have five magic beans to give you for your cow."
Mousie said, "Yes. Magic beans will make my mom happy." And so the man gave Mousie the beans and Mousie gave him the cow.
When his mom saw that Mousie got five beans for the cow, she was sad. "We cannot eat five beans. We will be hungry." She took the beans and tossed them out the window. They landed in the garden and it began to rain. The beans got bigger and bigger. They got so big they went up to the sky.
Mousie began to go up the bean plant. He went up to the sky. When he got to the top, he saw a big house. At the door, he saw a Piggie and said, "Hello. It is good to see you. No one comes here. I am getting eggs to cook for the giant that lives here. He is very big and scary. He has a magic goose and a magic harp. He will not like to see you."
Then Mousie and Piggie felt a thump, thump, thump. "Oh, no," Piggie said. "The giant is coming. Hide under the table, fast." Mousie ran under the table and hid.
The giant came in and sat down at the table. "I want some eggs to eat," he yelled. Piggie came and gave the giant eggs to eat. Then the giant yelled, "I want my magic goose." Piggie ran to get the giant's magic goose. He came and put it on the table.
"Lay a gold egg for me," the giant said to the goose. And the goose laid three gold eggs in the giant's lap.
Then the giant yelled, "I want my magic harp." Piggie ran and got him his magic harp. "Magic harp play for me." The magic harp began to play. The giant liked the song. It made him sleepy. Soon he fell asleep.
When Mousie realized the giant was asleep he came out from under the table. He grabbed the goose and the harp and ran fast. As he ran, the goose began to honk and the harp began to sing. The giant woke up from his nap. When he saw his magic goose and magic harp were gone he yelled,
"FEE FIE FO FUM
I smell a mouse."
Mousie told Piggie to come with him to be free. They ran to the bean plant and began to go down fast. It was hard with the magic goose and magic harp in his arms. The giant was at the top of the bean plant and coming down. Mousie and Piggie went faster. The giant was coming faster, too. Mousie got to the bottom and called to his mom. His mom gave Piggie the axe and he cut down the bean plant. The giant fell into the hills. No one saw the giant again.
Mousie and Piggie gave Mousie's mom the magic goose. The goose was happy to lay gold eggs for them. The magic harp sang, while Mousie and Piggie played the piano.
