In the Land of Play / So Many Wines, So Little Time

Nolan wants to get into his fridge.
I think he wants to meet the "Cold Air Crook."
We used to warn our children about how he would escape if you left the door open too long.
Now the twins warn their mother about him.

He's certain if he could just figure out which leg to put in first,
he could do it.

He did really well with the play doh.
He didn't try to eat it.
I discourage it, since I'm sure it has gluten.

Nolan's favorite fruit is bananas..
When he finishes one, he will ask for another.
He thinks we don't give it to him, because we can't remember where they are
He tries to point and lead us to them.

Nolan likes stacking blocks,
so we introduced him to stacking beads.

We decided to take Nolan to McDonald's Playland.
He needed help to get to the top level.
Grampa and Gramma's knees will be sore for some time.

I think Grampa is resting,
before he comes back down.

Nolan had no fear of the covered slide.
But what happened to Grampa?

Good thing he didn't get stuck in the middle.

Nolan learned to play Ring Around the Rosie.
He anticipates falling down, as soon as he hears, "Ashes."

 California Gentlemen

Welcome to the California wineries.
We started at Cosentino's.
We decided 8 wineries later, Cosentino's Poet is a favorite.

Wherever we went, people commented on how well-behaved the boys were.
Jeni was prepared.  I think she's done this before.
We found them a spot where they wouldn't be stepped or spilled on,
and then we enjoyed the wines.

We rented a house in Napa,
so we could all be together.
We played board games, cards and enjoyed Knock-knock jokes.

Andrew tells a Knock-knock joke better than anyone I know.
His delivery is the piece de resistance.

We went to the Petrified Forest.
The gift shop encouraged the boys to explore.

Gramma loves rocks, too.
I used to pick them up and save them in my pockets.
My mother said she was embarrassed when she took my Sunday coat to the cleaners.
She had to empty the pockets of handfuls of rocks,
before she could leave it.
I was crushed she didn't bring my collection home.

An idea for Christmas for the person who has everything.
Open your gifts carefully this year!

They're not petrified, yet.
Well, Grampa might be a little bit.

A winery in a castle;  Casstello di Amorosa.
Andrew was anxious to find the dungeon.

"Are we having lunch, here?
Will the other knights be arriving soon?"

The grape press interested our young engineer.

Where are their children?

There were many children at this table.
There was also a whispering wall for fun.
The boys enjoyed breadsticks, while we enjoyed the wine.

We spent Thanksgiving with Elizabeth from
Elizabeth Spencer Winery.
They make single varietal wines.
I loved their chardonnay.

The boys enjoyed their own grape juice at
Elizabeth Spencer's.

It's time to hurry back to our Napa house.
A complete (including pumpkin pie)
Thanksgiving dinner is about to be delivered.

This is our Napa house.
It was within walking distance of downtown Napa.

We had breakfast outside at Model bakery,
 famous for their English muffins.

Mousie wants to know where his grape juice went.
Mousie is 63 and-a-half years old.  He has super-powers.

We started our morning in Sonoma at a park
with a playground and ducks.

The boys enjoyed themselves at the park.
I think the adults were sitting in a corner with their tablets.

The boys can read the signs at the park.
They wanted to skip the portion of the park marked
appropriate for 2 - 5 year olds.
We had to explain to them, they fit in that category.
They were amazed, since they prefer the more challenging sections.

Benziger's specialized in bio-dynamic vineyards.
We took a tractor tour of the winery.

This winery had a playground.
We had lunch, and the boys made some new friends.

Grampa Mel Goedken used to think
a stranger was just a friend he hadn't met, yet.
The boys are Goedkens, too.

Try It, You'll Like It/California Vacation Day 1

Gramma,, look what I found in your backyard!
Should we bring him inside to get warm?

I'm working on my Christmas list for Santa.

I like puzzles, cars books and anything orange.

Story time is a ritual before bedtime.
Even if he can't keep his eyes open,
the books must be read before settling down.

The cow says, "Moo."

Nolan enjoys brushing his teeth.
It's a reason to play with the water.

I think they're all still in there.

Grampa and Nolan share a belly laugh.

Nolan can now crawl on the table to play with the train.
It's very convenient.

Nolan does not like anything new.
Chickpea and goji berry salad, which really was delicious,
was not on Nolan's menu.

Our California Gentlemen

Grampa built the boys bench raisers and a foot rest,
so they will be more comfortable when they practice the piano.
He brought it in a spare suitcase; some assembly required.

The boys challenged Grampa to a matching game.
In typical fashion, Grampa "played for the farm."
I discouraged him from trying to win the boys piggy banks.

Grampa tries the balance beam at the park.
Thankfully, there were no injuries.

The boys can still fit into the same tire swing.

Nathan and Gramma tried the spring rocking horse.
It dips really low when Gramma rides with Nathan.

We started our adventures at Coyote Point, a discovery museum.

Grampa should be able to get us a set of these at Home Depot.

Could you pass me another pipe to join my T connector
to my elbow joint?

How hard is it to clog an air tunnel?

Work faster!

Every museum should have a wet sand table for children.
Good thing we ate lunch before we played with the sand.

It's hard for the engineers to pass up a "discovery" opportunity.

It's also hard for them to walk away from a crank that moves.
An engineer wants the crank in motion to stay in motion.

Can we stay overnight in the solar dome?

There's plenty of room for both of us.

Andrew in his natural habitat.

Grampa learns what it's like to be an inmate at the zoo.
We tried to move away very quickly,
but he found us.
