Drinking Liquid Gold

Nolan spills his milk on a regular basis.
But if he gets a glass of juice, he treats it like liquid gold.
He uses two hands and not a drop escapes.

Nolan seems to know his colors.
His favorite color is orange.
He can find the RED button.
And he loves to say, "blue."

Nolan is impersonating Chevie Chase in the movie, Vacation.
(one of Grampa's favorites)
His car stops, he opens his eyes to discover, "We're here.  Everyone out."
In the next 30 seconds, he's wide awake and ready for lunch.

Sometimes when we think he's disappeared, we find him sitting in his high chair.

Nolan wonders why we have this?
So do I.

Contractor Grampa is in a race with the weather.
There are now lights on the risers of the steps.
Soon he'll be able to work in the dark.
Nolan already enjoys the new deck.

The California Gentlemen

Goedkens defy danger and ignore warnings.
They're meant for others.

This is a picture of Grampa on the top of the Zugspitze,
the highest mountain in Germany.
The cable rail was for your protection.
Being American, we assumed there would be a higher fence
if you weren't supposed to be there..
We ignored the fact the cable was nearly buried in the ground by deep snow.
Europeans actually think for themselves
I wanted the perfect picture, so he climbed out there before the children.
Once he got out there he regained his senses and didn't let the children join him.

This is Uncle Jim at the Cliffs of Dover.
They don't allow anyone to go so close to the edge.
Security escorted him back to safety.

A Tiring Day Taking Care of Gramma!

Gramma decided to take me to a new park.
She only got a little lost trying to find it.

By the time we arrived, I felt like I needed a nap.

"What do you mean, you don't want to play under the slide with me?"

"Can we put these back on the tree?"

"I think I could turn these sticks into divining rods."

Nolan has no thought that he might not make the next step.
He has total confidence Gramma will make it happen.
Gramma needs to work on her confidence.

"Let's take our walk, Gramma.
You walk and I'll ride."

A boy's work is never done.

"I'll take care of the bugs for you.
Now, where is your mouse?"

California Gentlemen

Gramma and Nathan saw this beauty when we went out to dinner.
We wanted to take it home, but the owner might have been confused.
Gramma's second car accident was with a convertible,
but she didn't have a license then.
The first accident was when she was four years old and released the brake on her parent's car.
Shortly after that someone invented seat belts.
How old are the twins?

MG's are a family car to the Goedkens.
We used to own a red MG.

\Mary and Ray's girls stayed overnight on a Saturday.
The next day, I left early to play at church.
Terry was going to bring the children with him, later.
Without thinking I took the family car.
When Terry got five children out to the garage,
he decided it was easier to load them into the MG than to turn them around.
I think Matt was in the boot.
That was before the car seat laws for children.

I have often wondered how our children survived.
Or for that matter, how we survived.
